Dubai: Kricket’s Spero cricket academy will celebrate its first anniversary by flying in one of India’s most successful captains and legendary batsman Mohammad Azharuddin to conduct a camp from October 13 to 15.

This academy — which won the prestigious Shyam Bhatia inter academy tournament title — also announced expansion plans.

Addressing a press conference, C.T.K. Mashood, director of the academy, announced that Kricket Spero will also be starting their academy in Doha, Qatar at the New Ideal School with modern amenities this month.

Regi Cherian, the CEO of the academy, elaborated on the anniversary celebrations.

“Azharuddin will provide one to one coaching for selected trainees of the academy from October 13 to 15. We follow the best practices followed by National Cricket Academy and MRF Pace Foundation in India with coaches who are former cricketers who had played at topmost level — and the visit of former Indian captain Azharuddin would definitely help our young trainees to achieve more success.”

Kricket’s Spero academy, which was launched by T.C. Mathew, the vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and president of the Kerala Cricket Association, works in close association with Kerala Cricket Association coaches and fitness experts. “Soon we will be having Pious Joseph, who was coaching Kerala Under-22 team as our full time coach and Kerala’s fitness coach Jean John will also be here to work on players’ fitness,” said Mashood. Spero has now introduced a five-day-a week coaching programme at its centre in Al Nasr Leisureland.

The anniversary celebration will be held at the Daraj Alyasmin, Metha Plaza Restaurant & Café, Oud Metha at 6pm on October 14 with Azharuddin as the chief guest. The event is sponsored by Body and Soul health club and Spa Ajman, and powered by Blue Ocean Training and Consultancy.

Kricket Spero academy team recently participated in the South India Inter-Academy tournament held in Kochi and its promising batsman, Varun Nayanar, won the best batsman of the tournament award.
