Dubai: Emirati distance runner and Asian Games gold medallist Alia Mohammad Saeed and 13 other elite and Olympic athletes are confirmed to take part in the sixth Dubai Women’s Run at SkyDive Dubai on The Palm from 7am on November 4.

Air France KLM has partnered as the event’s official airline to sponsor the athlete’s travel and partnered as the official apparel outfitter for the run’s 5000 plus participants. The Al Jalila Foundation is also the event’s preferred beneficiary with all participants encouraged to dedicate funds to support medical research in the UAE.

The standard of competition will rise with the inclusion of these athletes who have been enticed by the Dh100,000 prize fund.

International runners in attendance include; Armenia’s Stella Tamrazyan and Lilit Harutyunyan, Ali Taher Bibiro from Chad, Kristina Maki and Simona Vrzalova from the Czech Republic, Marie Elaine Saholinirina from Madagascar, Biljana Cvijanovic and Ana Risticevic from Serbia, Dina Lebo Phalula from South Africa and Stella Chesang and Mercyline Chelangat from Uganda.

IAAF council member and president of the UAE Athletics Federation Ahmad Al Kamali said: “The Dubai Women’s Run supports the government’s initiative to encourage healthy living in the UAE and our sponsorship demonstrates our commitment to further spreading our ‘wellness’ message’ across the nation. We are proud to be investing in our community by supporting events like this that empower women and encourage them to live an active life.”

This year’s run collaborates with the Sun and Sands Sports Fitness Fest. Registration via www.dubaiwomensrun.com costs Dh150 and closes at midnight on November 2. Volunteers are also needed for the event and can register via the website.
