Sharjah: Nada Askar Al Naqbi, Director, Women Sports Department has been promoted as Director General, WSF, with immediate effect.

The decision was announced by Shaikha Jawaher Bint Mohammad Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah in her efforts to support and empower women, enabling them to contribute positively to society by leading national foundations that elevate UAE communities.

The WSF was established in November 2016 through an Emiri Decree issued by Shaikh Dr. Sultan. The new body was chaired by Shaikha Jawaher with the foundation entrusted with the task of developing and elevating women’s sports in Sharjah and the UAE, while facilitating Emirati sportswomen’s involvement in various regional and international events.

Al Naqbi has held several posts in the sports field and has accumulated vast experience. Since 2008, she has been the director of WSD while also functioning as Secretary General of the Sharjah Award for Sports Family, and Head of the Executive Committee and Manager of Arab Women Sports Tournament since 2012. She is also a member of the UAE Women’s Sports Committee since 2009. In addition to being the Chairperson of the Women’s Committee at the Arab Karate Association, and a member of Sharjah Tatweer (Development) since its inception in 2005.

Al Naqbi has received a number of accolades and distinctions throughout her career. Among the awards bestowed on her are the Excellence Medal during the Silver Jubilee of the Sharjah Ladies Club in 2004, the Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Creative Sports Award in 2009, the Medal of Sharjah’s Sports Leaders in 2012 and the Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Award for Women Athletes in 2013.
