Al Ain: The Al Ain International Pro Jiu-Jitsu Championship will take place at the UAE University Sports Hall in Al Ain on Friday and Saturday.

The event, which follows on from the success of last weekend’s Under-18 Al Ain International Jiu-Jitsu Championship, is one of a series on the local calendar.

“We are happy to see the turnout that attended last week’s championship,” said Fahad Al Shamsi, chief executive officer of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF).

“This proves the increasing popularity of jiu-jitsu. We consider this the fruit of constant efforts to raise awareness about this remarkable sport.

“We are also proud to see the development of athletes and are looking forward to witnessing the skills of pro athletes on display at this weekend’s championship.

“We wish participants luck and hope they show a level of competition that expresses the spirit and values of jiu-jitsu,” he added.

The UAEJJF is also preparing for three championships in November; the Mother of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Championship second round will be held on November 3, followed by the President’s Jiu-Jitsu Cup second round for UAE clubs on November 4 and the Shaheed Jiu-Jitsu Championship, November 24-25. In December there will also be the Dubai International Pro Championship, December 8-9, followed by the President’s Jiu-Jitsu Cup third round on December 23.
