Ajman: Ajman Cricket Council’s initiative to bring bank employees onto the cricket field has turned out to be a huge success. Their Inter Bank cricket championship being held at the Ajman Eden Garden ground is being keenly fought with almost all top teams competing for the title.

This event was sponsored by Red Bull. Bank employees from Abu Dhabi, Dubai took part and some of the players who were outstanding players in the past, displayed their skills again.

Emirates NBD becomes the first team to reach the finals by defeating Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank by eight wickets in the semifinal. Waqas Khan of Emirates Bank who plays regularly in domestic cricket produced a fine spell of 3 for 14 to restrict Commercial Bank to 139 runs. Emirates Bank won in 18 overs through Eranga De Silva’s unbeaten 62.

The seven-a-side cricket tournament being held for the last 28 years to celebrate the UAE National Day will be held again on December 2. This tournament had over the years brought cricketers from all nationalities to enjoy a full day of cricket.

The 45th National Day will be held at the Ocean Fairground DIP in Dubai. This event is organised by Ocean Fair Sports Club and former UAE Umpire Tariq Butt. Only eight teams are allowed to take part in this one day tournament. For two decades this tournament has been supported by veteran cricketer Freddy Sidhwa with Deepak Arora of City Diamond donating the trophies.
