Al Ain: An 84th minute penalty from Ahmad Al Attas saw the UAE beat Lebanon 1-0 in their second Group D Asian Football Confederation Under-23 Championship qualifier in Al Ain on Monday.

Ali Al Yahyaee was brought down in the box by Lebanon’s Khaled Ali with six minutes to spare and Al Attas, who is now on three goals for the tournament, struck bottom left from the spot to nick the win.

The UAE are now top of the group after the second round of fixtures, level on six points with Uzbekistan, but ahead on goal difference after opening with a 5-0 win over Nepal on Saturday.

Uzbekistan beat Lebanon in their Saturday opener and followed it up with a 2-0 win over Nepal earlier on Monday.

Wednesday’s final group game between the UAE and Uzbekistan will now decide who finishes first and second in the group and who qualifies for the AFC Under-23 Championships in China in January.
