Dubai: Al Wasl moved joint second with their fourth straight win after beating Sharjah 2-0 at home in round five of the Arabian Gulf League on Thursday.

Caio Canedo Correa assisted Fabio de Lima’s early opener and then added his own in the second half.

Correa ran in from the flank and passed across the goalmouth for De Lima to tap in the first on 14 minutes.

Al Wasl could have made it two just after the break but a long range shot from Ali Salmeen came back off the post.

Correa eventually did find a second for the hosts on 75 minutes however after picking up an interception in midfield and running the length of his half before a firing a deflected shot past the keeper.

Elsewhere on Thursday Al Jazira went top of the league with a 5-0 win at home to Bani Yas thanks to braces either half from Ali Mabkhout and Ailton Almeia before Mabkhout sealed his hat-trick before the end.

Al Dhafra also stopped a run of four straight defeats to get their first win of the season 2-1 at home to tenth-placed Kalba. Omar Kharbin scored two in the second half either side of Jociel Ferreira’s effort to lift the strugglers off the foot of the table.
