Abu Dhabi: Striker Mourad Batna is pleased with the atmosphere inside Al Wahda’s dressing room as the team prepare for their ‘Year of Zayed’ Arabian Gulf Super Cup against Arabian Gulf League (AGL) champions Al Jazira.
The Moroccan expects both teams to give their best to win the trophy on Saturday in what he called a clash of two big and ambitious sides.
Batna hoped his team will be on form to come away from Bani Yas Stadium with the plaudits.
The match represents a big personal challenge for Batna who wants to win his first silverware at the club.
“We expect our fans to be present and support us from inside the stadium. The presence of supporters is important for the players, no team can win titles without their fans being on their side,” said the 27-year-old.
“The Clarets fans were always there for us and their presence gives us a huge confidence boost and adds to our strengths. We will work hard to please our fans with a new success to add to the club’s decorated history.”
Al Wahda captain Esmail Mattar is also hopeful of success but expects a tough match against Al Jazira.
“It will not be an easy match between these two big teams who are both after the title,” he said.
“Final matches are always different as a draw is never an option. The team that manages the match better will be closer to win, and I hope that is us.
“We will give our best to lift Year of Zayed Arabian Gulf Super Cup title to add to our glorious history. I hope fans are present at the Bani Yas Stadium to support the players. Fans are our motivation to fight harder and do all we can. This match is a big challenge and I pray that luck is on our side and we can win.”
The Pro League Committee will introduce a new trophy design for the Year of Zayed Arabian Gulf Super Cup winner. The unveiling of the new trophy will take place before the match on Saturday at 8pm.
