Abu Dhabi: Al Wahda’s hopes of motoring towards more domestic football success have been galvanised by a major new sponsorship agreement with Liberty Automobiles.

The Abu Dhabi-based club’s partnership with the car firm, which was announced at a press conference at the Grand Millennium Hotel, will see the Cadillac logo emblazoned on their strips.

In addition, the team’s management and a select number of players will get Cadillac vehicles.

“At Liberty Automobiles, we are proud to be joining forces with Al Wahda FC, the capital’s most popular football club,” said Rimoun Hanouch, Liberty Automobiles’ group general manager. “This sponsorship sees the coming together of two great organisations representing the capital, and we look forward to a successful season by the Al Wahda Footbal Club.”

Al Wahda are currently ninth in the Arabian Gulf League, after finishing third last season, and next travel to Al Dhafra on Saturday.

But their hopes of defending their Arabian Gulf Cup title are over as they sit sixth in the seven-team Group A after no wins from five matches.
