Dubai: Sharjah have appointed Emirati coach Abdul Aziz Al Anbari as a permanent successor to sacked Jose Peseiro, it was announced on Monday night.

Al Anbari was thought to have been an interim appointment until The Kings unveiled him on a full-time basis.

This is the 40-year-old former Sharjah midfielder’s first managerial appointment.

Peseiro was sacked after picking up just one point from the first four Arabian Gulf League games of the season leaving the club second from bottom after following up an opening goalless draw at home to Al Nasr, with defeats away to Al Dhafra 2-0, at home to Al Wasl 2-1 and away to Hatta 3-2.

Al Anbari’s first game in charge will be at home to Shabab Al Ahli Dubai Club in the league on Saturday.

The Portuguese is the second managerial casualty of the season after Macedonian coach Gjoko Hadzievski was replaced by Syrian boss Nizar Mahrous.

Hatta had lost their first three games of the season away to Shabab Ahli 4-0, at home to Al Ain 3-0 and away to Emirates 4-0 before Mahrous took over and beat Sharjah 3-2 at home. With that victory Hatta jumped from bottom in the 12-team league to 10th.
