Dubai: Gervinho’s move from AS Roma to Al Jazira is off because he allegedly asked for a ‘helicopter and a private beach’, according to reports in Italy.

The 28-year-old Ivorian was subject to a €13 million (Dh53.3 million) move from Serie A to the Arabian Gulf League but the four-year deal fell through after the Abu Dhabi club cited “obscene and excessive demands”.

Reports in Italy say that on top of a €4.5 million annual salary he asked for a helicopter and a private beach, as well jobs and housing for his entourage and an unknown number of plane tickets to and from his native Ivory Coast.

An Al Jazira official had earlier told press: “The deal hit a stumbling block because of the excessive demands on his four-year deal.

“He started making obscene demands, so the transfer is off. It is better for us to call this transfer off now, rather than live with a player for a few months who is likely to cause problems because of his wage demands.”

Gervinho is now expected to return to pre-season with AS Roma as usual, but the Italian giants are said to be disappointed that the deal didn’t go through as they had needed the money from his sale to make squad amendments for next season. In the meantime, the club have also said they can’t contact the player.

Elsewhere, Al Ain forward Asamoah Gyan is subject to a bid from Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG.

The Ghanaian 29-year-old won a hat-trick of league top scorer’s gongs in three seasons at Al Ain, after initially joining from English Premier League side Sunderland back in 2011. However, he failed to replicate as deadly a form last season as he struggled with absence and injury. Sven-Goran Eriksson is the manager of Shanghai and will know all about Gyan from his time spent as technical director of Al Nasr back in 2013.

Elsewhere, Al Shabab Al Arabi have confirmed they are looking to offload Brazilian striker Edgar Bruno.

Al Shabab official Mohammad Al Marri told the media that the team are looking for a replacement for Bruno, 28, who joined from Vitoria Guimaraes in 2012.

“Edgar has largely succeeded with the team but it is now the desire of the technical committee to add a new player. So now all work is in the search for a replacement for next season,” he said.
