Dubai: The Jumeirah branch of the UAE mountain-biking club (UAE MTB) is looking to recruit more members ahead of its winter season. The two-year-old group is free to join and currently has 250 riders and rides four times a week. Riders must have their own bike, helmet, high visibility jacket and front and rear lights. Riders are split into eight groups depending on their ability.

Urban night rides take place twice weekly from Jumeirah Open Beach, 26km down to the Burj Al Arab and back on Sundays, and from Jumeirah Open Beach 40km to Dubai Festival City and back on Tuesdays.

Out-of-town rides also take place on Friday and Saturday and differ in distance and location, with a 90km trail in Al Shawka between Sharjah and Fujairah said to be the group’s preferred location. The group usually meets at Satwa bus station ahead of their weekend excursions.

Organisers are also appealing for more sponsors to help supplement the groups’ activities.
