Dubai: Claudia Villalon and Bea Acena clinched the first-ever K-Swiss ladies doubles open tennis organised by Zayed Abbas Tennis Academy (Zata) at the Emirates Golf Club last week.

In an exciting final played at the EGC, Villalon and Acena fought till the very end for a 6-7, 7-5, 10-7 win over Santisuk Marshall and Mareen Olander in the final. Registered as an official UAE ranking tennis tournament, the event was sanctioned by the Tennis Emirates with 18 women participating from across the UAE.

Sponsored by leading international sportswear K-Swiss, the presentation of trophies was done by Zayed Abbas of Zata and Andy Meech, head, sports and recreation, EGC.

“The success of this women’s-only competition has pushed us towards a dedicated annual event that we will have in the future as well,” Abbas said.

“Women play an important role in society and I think it is our way of showing our gratitude to our women through a sports event of this nature,” he added.
