Dubai: The UAE U-16 team was crowned champions at the end of the annual GCC Junior Tennis Championships that concluded in Manama, Bahrain earlier this week.

The UAE team of Fahad Abbas Al Janahi, Faris Abdullah Al Janahi and Abdullah Al Ahli won all four of their encounters. They began with a 3-0 win over Kuwait, followed by identical 3-0 results against Oman and Bahrain. In their final encounter, the UAE secured a hard-fought 2-1 win over Saudi Arabia.

Oman took the second place and Kuwait followed in third. Fahad Al Janahi, one of the most consistent UAE juniors, was adjudged the best player of the tournament with an all-win record against his name during the week.

The UAE also won a bronze medal in the under-12 competition as they finished their round-robin matches with a win against hosts Bahrain while losing two ties against Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Adel Mohammad Baqr was the head of the delegation, while Hisham Bramly and Omar Bahroozian were the two coaches that accompanied the teams.

The two teams arrived on Tuesday and were welcomed at the Dubai International Airport by Abdul Rahman Falaknaz, Vice-President, Tennis Emirates, along with Tennis Emirates board members Salah Tahlak, Khalid Al Ali, Ahmad Abdul Malek and Khalid Al Ali, along with Sarah Ahmad Baqer, General Secretary, Tennis Emirates, and Slah Bramly, Technical Director, Tennis Emirates.

 

U-16:
