Dubai: Amirvala Madanchi maintained his unbeaten run while helping himself to a 6-2, 6-3 win against Xavier Masson to clinch the Emirates Tennis Academy (ETA) Open Tennis held at the ETA tennis courts in Silicon Oasis earlier this week.

Madanchi, who helped Iran stay put in Asia-Oceania Group 2 of the Davis Cup in the first half of April, was dominant against his 28-year-old opponent from France. Madanchi made his debut at the Dubai Tennis Championships when he teamed up with the UAE’s Omar Behroozian before losing in straight sets to Henri Kontinen and John Peers at the end of February.

However, the Dubai-based 22-year-old is yet to lose a single match on the domestic circuit going back to May 2015. “I think for me it is just a question of staying focused on what I can do on court. My opponent has had more experience on the tennis circuit, but I knew that if I stuck to my game then I could get the better of him,” Madanchi told Gulf News.

“I knew he would be tricky to start with. But once I got the first break then I was more settled and concentrated on doing the right things. And then with the right dose of aggression I got even better,” the 22-year-old added.

Fuad Bukola and Michael Eleyodin, both coaches at ETA did well to get the better of Kirk Rebuyas and Alvaro Bueno 6-4, 6-3 and win the men’s doubles title, while Giulia Chirilov fought off Dipasha Mehra 6-1, 7-6 for the women’s singles crown.

Ahmad Abdul Malik, Vice-President, Tennis Emirates was joined by Shaikh Saeed Bin Hasher Al Maktoum and Jean Francois Danican, co-owner, ETA in presenting the trophies to the winners.
