Dubai: Fermin Ferreyra and Guillermo Villafane dethroned two-time champions Sandy Farquharson and Javier Lopez to claim the men’s open padel crown at the Fifth Nad Al Sheba Ramadan Sports Tournament.

Ferreyra and Villafane won 6-3, 6-3 to clinch their first title in this tournament, while last year’s runners-up Javier Molina and Emilio Misas got the better of the French pair of Benjamin Cassaigne and Xavier Masson 6-2, 6-3 in the fight for third place.

“It always feels nice to win a first title,” Ferreyra told Gulf News.

“Even if we had lost I would have been still happy as we have started playing like a true pair,” the Argentinian added.

“Last year we were the runners-up and this year we have slipped down to third place. This only means the teams have got stronger,” Molina said.

“We played well and gave it our all this time, and tonight we were really blending well as a team,” he added.

Farquharson, who has been nursing a bad knee the past few months, was practical about the result. “You win some, you lose some,” Farquharson said.

“They came in with a plan and executed it to perfection,” he added.
