Dubai: Sharmardal powered its way to an outright win in the fourth and final heat of the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race held off Mina Seyahi at the Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) on Wednesday.

This race is normally a final dress rehearsal before the DIMC plays host to the annual ‘Al Gaffal’ between Sir Bu Na’air and DIMC, that brings down the curtains on the watersports season in the UAE. This year’s Al Gaffal has been scheduled to be held on May 13.

Owned and skippered by Sultan Saeed Mohammad Hareb, Sharmardal had a strong fight from the Mohammad Hamad Al Ghashaish-owned and skippered, ‘Al Wasf’. But Hareb went in for a tactical finish turning past the buoy and heading with a straight tack towards the finish line ahead of ‘Al Wasf’. ‘Al Zeeb’, owned and skippered by Hamdan Saeed Jaber, was placed third to complete the podium standings.

The Abdullah Al Jaber Al Hammadi-owned and skippered ‘Lahoub’ came in fourth, while Khalaf Butti Mussabah Al Ghashaish’s ‘Al Shaqi’ came in fifth.
