Dubai: Al Hurr Rashid Khadim Al Muhairi powered his way to a rare double while winning the third heat of the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Championship held off the Mina Seyahi waters of Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) on Saturday.

Al Muhairi, who led Raad to victory in this double-header held over the weekend, guided Toufan to victory in Saturday’s third round of the championship.

Organised by the race department of DIMC, the race had a similar course set as it got under way off The World islands and continued past The Palm Jumeirah towards the finish line near the Burj Al Arab.

The same 80 boats participated in the third round with Toufan’s skipper Al Muhairi maintaining a perfect line for his dhow to finish ahead of Juma Saif Sultan Al Muhairi-skippered ‘Al Takar’ and Ali Esmail Yousuf Al Hammadi finishing in third with ‘Mukhdaram 1’.

Ebrahim Bilal Al Noubi Saeed’s ‘Al Baz’ came in fourth place, while Obaid Juma Al Ahab Al Rumaithi’s ‘Al Tahaf’ taking fifth place.

DIMC board member Eisa Bin Kharbash was joined by fellow top officials Arif Saif Al Zafein and Mohammad Al Marri in presenting the top three finishers with their trophies immediately after the race.
