Dubai: Raad, owned by Saeed Rashid Bin Ghadir and captained by young Al Hurr Rashid Khadim Al Muhairi, won the second round of the 22ft Dubai Traditional Sailing Championship held off the Mina Seyahi waters of Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) on Friday.

Organised by the race department of DIMC, the race got under way off The World islands and continued past The Palm Jumeirah towards the finish line near the Burj Al Arab.

As many as 80 boats participated in the second round of the championship. Raad’s skipper put his dhow in a perfect wind line - even as the Khalfan Suhail Al Muhairi-skippered ‘Al Tabar’ gave chase to the leader along with ‘Al Douz’, skippered by Ahmad Mohammad Rashid Obaid Al Mua’ali.

But with a steady wind filling their sail, Al Muhairi managed to steer Raad to victory leaving Al Tabar and Al Douz in the next two positions. ‘Mukhdaram 1’, skippered by Ali Esmail Yousuf Al Hammadi and ‘Ghayath’, captained by Salim Ali Salim Adeedi, took the fourth and fifth places, respectively.

Top officials from the DIMC including Eisa Bin Kharbash, Arid Saif Al Zafein and Mohammad Al Marri presented the top three finishers with their trophies immediately after the race.
