Dubai: Mark Webber’s Porsche was left engulfed in flames after a huge crash in the final race of the World Endurance Championships on Sunday.

The former F1 driver somehow escaped serious injury as his car broke into pieces after smashing into Matteo Cressoni’s Ferrari and then into a wall at the Interlagos circuit in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

A Facebook post later confirmed the Australian was ok.

“Mark has been taken to a local hospital in Sao Paulo and will stay overnight for precautionary checks. He is in a satisfactory condition and his team mates Timo Bernhard and Brendon Hartley have gone to see him,” the post read.

The FIA also released a statement on its website, saying both Webber and Cressoni were in ‘satisfactory’ condition.

The statement said: “Both drivers were taken to the circuit's medical centre and, after initial examination, to the local Hospital Bandeirantes for further checks, their condition has been reported as satisfactory.”

Webber left the Red Bull F1 team at the end of last season to race in the World Endurance Championships.
