Abu Dhabi: FIA President Jean Todt would gladly utilise the expertise of just-retired Brazilian Formula One driver Felipe Massa.

The Williams driver, a veteran of 268 Grand Prix starts, contested in his last race Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix on Sunday. True to his competitive nature, Massa started and finished in 10th to end the season tied with Nico Hulkenberg on 43 points.

Even though he will leave F1 at the end of the season, Massa is expected to continue racing in other series. He is also believed to have spoken to Todt regarding the use of his expertise to assist the governing body moving forward.

“He is stepping out and that’s sad. But he is still very motivated to race. He will find a good way to still race and bring some contribution for motorsport he will be a great asset,” Todt said of the Brazilian.

Massa’s name, meanwhile, has been put forward by Brazil to be the country’s representative on the World Motor Sport Council. Todt admitted he would be interested in working with Massa in the future and is considering how he can integrate the Brazilian. “Brazil has applied to be a member of the World [Motor Sport] Council and their candidate is Felipe Massa,” Todt related.

“So it will be up to the General Assembly [which meets on December 8 in Paris]. I may have some other ideas for him. I still have a few days to see if he’s interested,” he added.

“I take off my hat to Felipe. Incidentally, it was my son’s birthday last week. Felipe is like my second son, he’s a great boy.”
