Dubai: Atef Al Barwani and Hussain Umid Ali got a win apiece in the SWS RX7 Sprint races at Dubai Kartdrome on Monday, while Oliver Walton was unbeatable in the Junior LR4 category.
Al Barwani struck first by powering to pole with a best lap of 1:12.042, with the top five on the grid separated by a second.
Al Barwani and Umid Ali set the early pace in race one and broke from the pack, before Al Barwani edged victory by less than half a second. Rami Azzam finished third.
Race two saw a three-way battle between Umid Ali, Al Barwani and Azzam as the trio swapped fastest laps and set a hot pace. Umid Ali eventually edged victory over Azzam in second and Al Barwani in third.
Walton had earlier done the double in the junior category, taking maximum points by winning both his heat races and then powering to a comfortable win in the SWS Junior LR4 Super Final.
Heat two winner Keanu Al Azhari was second overall in the heats, with Giacomo Caccia third thanks to his win in heat four. Behind Walton in the Super Final was Caccia in second and Seif Al Naggar third. Luis Velasco won the Final.
The next round of the series takes place at the Kartdrome on May 11. Only a driver’s best eight results are counted from the season, which is subject to change in length. The top three drivers at the end of the season qualify for the Sodi World Series Finals.
