Abu Dhabi: Khalid Al Qubaisi finished fourth in the LMGTE Am Class of the Six Hours of Fiji race in Japan on Sunday, round five of the current eight-stage FIA World Endurance Championship.

Team Proton Competition, backed by Emirates Global Aluminium and Abu Dhabi Racing, were only 0.66 seconds short of a third-place finish.

“The best we could aim for was third but we got fourth, only 0.66 seconds behind third,” said Al Qubaisi, who joined teammates Christian Ried and Klaus Bachler. “We could have got podium though as we made some mistakes that lost us more than 20 seconds.

“We are now third in the FIA World Endurance Championship with a good margin from fourth and ten points behind second. There are still three more rounds until the end of the season and we will keep on fighting for second overall,” he added.
