Dubai: The UAE Chess Federation will host the Championship Cup for the institutions and communities of the rapid chess. The event will be hosted by Dubai Municipality Club on November 3 and 4.

The Federation has opened registration until October 30, and allows participation of more than one team from the same organisation.

The tournament is using the Swiss system of nine rounds, 15 minutes for each player with 10 seconds increment for each move. Each team will have up to three players. The rules of International Chess Federation and the technical regulations of the UAE Chess Federation 2017 will be applied for the rapid chess event.

The UAE Chess Federation present a Championship Cup and a gold medal along with a prize of Dh3,000 for first place, while second place will fetch a silver medal and a prize of Dh2,000. The third place winner will receive a bronze medal and Dh1,000. Finally the fourth to sixth place will receive a monetary award of Dh500.

The general secretary of the UAE Chess Federation, Hussain Khalfan Al Shamsi, said the championship for the institutions has many objectives since it links the federation with these institutions. It also falls within the strategy of the federation in spreading the game’s spirit and making it accessible to everyone. Since chess is part of many events and occasions, such championships will encourage employees to be innovative and creative in their workplace.

Al Shamsi thanked Dubai Municipality for hosting the event and their continued cooperation with the UAE Chess Federation in all tournaments. Al Shamsi pointed out that Fujairah championship, which is held for the first time, has received the technical support from the federation.

The Federation encourages all the chess clubs to organise local and international tournaments to increase interaction between players. He also pointed out that any tournament held is open to all chess clubs.
