Abu Dhabi: A series of draws were registered on the top seven boards in Round 3 of the Master’s Tournament at the Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival.

The biggest upset of the day came lower down the order when Indian Grand Master Abhijeet Gupta was shocked by Valery Svirodov of Russia.

Svirodov is ranked 27 places (ranked 32) behind Gupta.

Among the shock winners of the day were GM Shardul Gagare, who created a flutter with a win over 11th ranked GM Parligras Mircea-Emilian of Romania, and International Master P. Iniyan stunned 12th ranked GM Robert Hovhannisyan of Armenia.

UAE’s Salem A.R. Saleh is on two points after settling for a draw with India’s Raja Harshit. As many as 22 players now have 2.5 points in the nine-round championship.
