Sharjah: Sharjah Cultural and Chess Club signed a friendship and co-operation agreement with the Uzbekistan Chess Academy, a Tashkent-based subsidiary of the Uzbekistan Chess Federation, on Saturday.

The signing was attended by Shaikh Saud Bin Abdul Aziz Al Mualla, chairman of the Sharjah Cultural and Chess Club and Husan Turdialiev, vice-president of the Uzbekistan Chess Federation, on the sidelines of the 21st Sharjah International Chess Championship, which saw 200 players from 24 countries participate from June 11-18,

Al Mualla said the collaboration was part of a strategic development plan for both parties to benefit from one another’s experience in order to help spread the sport and get more youngsters playing international chess.

The two organisations will share expertise and resources with a focus on development of player and fan pools.

Many of Uzbekistan Chess Academy’s players who have won an array of international titles were present at the recent Sharjah tournament, where they achieved high ratings.
