Dubai: Two of the ardent supporters of the India Club UAE Open Badminton tournament have booked their place in the semi-finals of the veteran doubles 50 & above category of the event. The pair of Dr Shafi Ul Mulk, who has been sponsoring the tournament, and Sunil Singh, the head of the badminton organising committee for many years, entered the last-four stage defeating Girish Chand and Joseph Davis 21-13, 21-14.
Shafi is the Managing Director of Global Hawk Imaging & Diagnostics LLC, the title sponsors of the event.
In the finals of the veterans’ mixed doubles (45 and above) James Varghese and Vidya Manghnani beat Alam Syah and Rosaymay Asignor 21-16, 13-21, 21-8 to win the title. It was not an easy win for Varghese and Manghnani although they won the first game. Syah and Asignor made a comeback in the second game before their opponents raised their game.
In the final of the girls’ singles under-18 event, Nida Najeeb defeated Evana Bose 21-5, 21-17 for the title.
In the super veteran doubles 55 & above title clash, Abdul Salam A.A. and Lal Mony defeated Aneesh Manirikandy and Suresh Menon 21-14, 21-15.
