Dubai: The UAE had mixed luck on the second day of the ongoing 33rd Asian Confederation of Billiards Sports (ACBS) Men’s Snooker Championships being held in Doha.

Mohammad Al Joker, the UAE’s top player recorded back-to-back wins to climb his way to the top of Group N, while Khalid Al Kamali and Eissa Ali Al Hashmi both ended on the losing side in Sunday’s fixtures.

In Saturday’s late match, Al Joker had got the better of Yazan Haddad of Syria 4-2 and on Sunday he came up with a 4-1 result against Qatar’s Abdul Mohsin to be the only player with two wins from as many matches.

With reigning national champion Mohammad Shehab getting a day off, the UAE quartet’s youngest player Khalid Al Kamali ran into rough weather as he went down 1-4 against multiple world champion Pankaj Advani of India.

Al Kamali, who had opened with a well-contested 4-2 win against Marlon Manalo from the Philippines on Saturday, was no match for four-time world snooker champion as the youngster from the UAE succumbed 1-4. The Pune-born Advani who had won 4-1 win against Ko Htet of Myanmar on Saturday, found the going easy and a top break of 93 was enough to hand him a second win from as many matches.

Al Hashmi put up a brave fight before going down 1-4 to Al Ajlani. Trailing by two frames at the start, Al Hashmi won the third and was ahead 44-34 in the fourth when his opponent from Saudi Arabia rallied well to win the frame 54-44 and then wrap up things with a 58-21 win in the fifth frame.

The 66 players taking part in the 33rd ACBS Men’s Snooker Championships have been divided into 16 groups for the preliminary round matches that will be held daily till Tuesday. The final has been fixed for April 28.
