Abu Dhabi: Bayarsaikhan Jargalsaikhan and Munkhzaya Enkhtur combined brilliantly to lead Mongolia to trounce Georgia 6-0 (1-0, 2-0, 3-0) in the first match of the Ice Hockey World Championship qualifiers here.

Both players scored a brace each, with their team’s MVP Namjil Mishigsuren adding the third following his two assists and Batbold Munkhbayar completing the damage.

Mongolia proved to be the dark horses of the qualifiers, with everyone expecting Georgia to win the encounter judging by the vast difference between the European and Asian countries in the game.

But the Mongolian team took command of the match with good balanced defensive and attacking moves and scored an easy and overwhelming victory, which means that winning either of their remaining two matches will lead them to the finals in South Africa.
