Los Angeles: The Ottawa Senators have dealt rugged defenceman Dion Phaneuf to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Slovakian forward Marian Gaborik and Nick Shore, the NHL teams announced on Tuesday night.

“It’s disappointing when you do get moved but with saying that I’m very excited about where I’m going and to be a LA King,” Phaneuf said.

The Kings also get journeyman forward Nate Thompson in the deal.

Phaneuf played in the second period against the Pittsburgh Penguins but was not on the Senators’ bench to start the third.

Phaneuf had three goals and 13 assists to go along with 34 penalty minutes in 52 games this season. Over 13 NHL seasons with the Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa, Phaneuf has 133 goals and 345 assists and 1,277 penalty minutes.
