Dubai: More than 100 bowlers representing various government entities are participating in the Second Dubai Sports Council (DSC) Women’s Bowling Tournament that got under way at the Dubai International Bowling Centre on Saturday.

Held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman, DSC, the tournament has so far attracted 117 women players, representing 17 government departments. Competition is being held every day from 10am to 2.30pm.

So far, 17 teams representing various government departments have started participating in the competition, including teams from the Ruler’s Court, the Executive Council, Dubai Police, the RTA, Dubai Courts, Public Prosecution, Dubai Municipality, Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activity, the Legal Affairs Department, Dubai World Centre, the Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation, the Mohammad Bin Rashid Housing Authority, Knowledge and Human Development Authority, Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, Dubai Health Authority, Dewa and Dubai Sports Council.

The UAE’s national bowling star Hind Al Hammadi has promised to attend the competition on a regular basis to help newcomers realise the benefits of sport.

Organisers DSC have been encouraging women from across the emirate to participate in the competition. The organisers have also added two additional lanes for participants from the Dubai Disabled Club.

The tournament is being held to achieve the vision of the DSC Women’s Sports Department that is aimed to create a promising future for women in sports while also boosting social ties among women employees in various government entities.
