The next big thing for the sport will be the formation of an UAE Polo Association bringing together all like-minded clubs and individuals in the country.

“There is no doubt we are looking at making our sport more official in the near future,” Sam Katiela, Managing and Creative Director, Mamemo Productions, said.

“We’ve been creating a vibe for our sport since the past few years and now we feel it is high time we get ourselves organised into an association and take things to the next level,” he added.

Now in its eleventh year, the Dubai Beach Polo Cup is being held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council (DSC). “This patronage only works in our favour as it is an acknowledgement of the work we have been putting in to get this as one of the premier sporting events on the Dubai calendar,” Katiela noted.

On hand was Nasser Al Rahma, Director of Events, DSC, who reiterated that such a move will take its own course of time. “Forming an association is a process and we expect this sport to get its act together in the near future. We host the season-ending Badminton World Series finale and the UAE still does not have a badminton association. I have no doubt that such sports are headed in the right direction,” Al Rahma said.

“Such things take time and I am convinced we will definitely have an association in the near future,” he added.
