Abu Dhabi: Some of the top ladies riders will be present for the 5th edition of International Show Jumping Cup on March 3 at the Al Forsan International Sports Resort.

The Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy (FBMA) announced that with the support of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), the Emirates Equestrian Federation (EEF), Abu Dhabi Media (ADM) and sponsored by Al-Shira’aa Stables and Etisalat, the event provides a special platform for female riders and showjumpers across the UAE and abroad.

This year an estimated 120 riders from over 20 countries, including the UAE, are expected to compete for the title and a total prize money of Dh650,500 is up for grabs.

Amal Al Muhairi, who had been taking part in the event since 2013, said the event has been a big boost for her career.

“Being a competition exclusively for females on our home turf provides more opportunities for the Emirati riders. I have taken part in this competition since its first year in 2013. I missed out last year. I had some success in a competition in Sharjah two weeks ago and am looking forward to replicate that performance,” said Amal, who will be riding Tom Boy this time round.

“Like me, I think there are several other talented Emirati riders entered for this competition. We are hopeful of some good results in the main competitions that include riders from other countries.

“I have been taking part in competitions for the last six years and obviously the long term goal is to represent the country at International competitions and the Asian Games,” added the final year business management student at the American University in Sharjah.

Dr Mai Al Jaber, board member of the FBMA, rated the event as one of the high-profile competitions in their calendar of events. “We have had success in this event every passing year. Last year we hosted 120 riders from 20 countries and this time we have 190 from 18 nations. We are particularly pleased that this year’s participation reflects our continuous efforts of engaging more Emirati women in sports.”
