Dubai: Less than a week since landing the Sky Bet Dash at York, Muthmir makes a quick return to action to contest the 32Red Cup (Stewards’ Cup) on Saturday, the final day of this year’s Glorious Goodwood meeting.

The William Haggas-trained son of Invincible Spirit was so impressive at York that he is strongly favoured to repeat the feat at the Sussex downs.

A maximum 28 runners line up for the 1,200-metre contest including last year’s winner Rex Imperator, who is also trained by Haggas.

Muthmir will bid to continue owner Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance’s vintage season by landing the event under jockey Dane O’Neill.

Rex Imperator has to shoulder top weight of 9st 10lb as he attempts to repeat last year’s success while Borderlescott, winner of this race back in 2006, must defy his 12 years of age.

Other popular sprinters in the race include York Glory, Ashpan Sam, Hallelujah and Seeking Magic.

Meanwhile, a field of seven will contest the Group 1 Nassau Stakes over 1,800 metres.

The field is headed by Aidan O’Brien’s Venus di Milo who was runner-up in the Irish Oaks last July,

On her most recent outing the four-year-old was second to Thistle Bird in the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh.

“She’ll love the fast ground. A mile and a quarter is as short as she’d want to go, but she’s in good form and she could run here and then go to York [Yorkshire Oaks],” said O’Brien in the Sporting Life.

“She’s in good form. We have to keep her busy as she’s a difficult horse to keep fit. It [the trip] is probably as tight as she wants to go, but we think the track will suit her well.”

Her main rival is the French challenger Narniyn who is trained by Alain de Royer-Dupre.

“Narniyn looks very well and she did a good piece of work on Monday,” said De Royer-Dupre.

“It looks a very open race, the only problem could be the turn and the up and down nature of the course. But there is a long home straight and Narniyn is very easy to ride and has good balance.

“Goodwood is a beautiful track and I like going there as it is not too far to get to. I have yet to have a winner there but have gone close with both Mandesha [runner-up in this race in 2007] and Jehannedarc [second in the 2012 Lilly Langtry Stakes].”

The Ed Dunlop-trained Amazing Maria is looking for a third success at Goodwood and her handler said: “I don’t want the ground to be rattling, but hopefully the ground is nice as the plan has always been to go to Goodwood.”
