Dubai Mutakayyef gave Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance, a third success in the Group 2 Summer Mile Stakes at Ascot when triumphing over a high-class field on Saturday.

Shaikh Hamdan colours were previously carried to victory by Aljamaaheer in 2014 and Aqlaam in 2009.

Eight of the ten runners were virtually in a line inside the final two furlongs, but Mutakayyef found extra to win by 2 1/4lengths from Dutch Connection.

Timeless Flight, making only his second career start for Godolphin handler Charlie Appleby, looked an exciting prospect when taking out a Maiden Stakes at York Racecourse, the home of horse racing in the north of England.

Having found Town Moor a tough nut to crack a fortnight ago Timeless Flight ran out an impressive winner with in-form Australian jockey James McDonald in the saddle.

The Helmet colt, who scored by three-quarters of a length from Richard Fahey’s Lucky Mistake, could next be seen in action in the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes at this track in August.

The Gimcrack is currently staged on the final day of York’s four-day Ebor Festival meeting.

McDonald, who rode three winners over the first two days of the July meeting at Newmarket, was delighted with the performance and said: “That’s a good start (to the day).

“He’s a lovely horse who had the form on the board and he was always going to win.”

Meanwhile, at Chester, the oldest and smallest racecourse in England. Godolphin’s Birchwood delivered a huge effort to land the Listed CorbettSports City Plate.

The son of Dark Angel was snapping a five-race winning streak dating back to July last season when he won the Group 2 Superlative Stakes.
