Dubai Trainer Erwan Charpy has revealed that 2015 Dubai Kahayla Classic (G1) hero Manark will miss the rest of the season due to injury but is expected to make a full recovery and return to action next term.

A high-class Purebred Arabian, Manark apparently fractured a leg after bolting to victory in the Group 2 Mazrat Al Ruwayah on December 17 at Meydan.

He is reported to be recovering well following a successfully arthroscopic surgery through the use of a screw fixation to the broken leg at the Dubai Equine Hospital

“It’s very disappointing, but to be honest, it could have been worse,” said Charpy, one of the longest-serving trainers in the UAE.

“I noticed that he wasn’t moving well after his last race at Meydan, so we took him to the equine hospital for a check-up. With the help of a radiograph, it was found that he had broken his leg. He went through the operation and everything went well.

“We’re very pleased with the way things have gone considering all that he has gone through,” he added.

“I’m not concerned long-term but we will give him a good rest until nest season and I’m very confident that he will be back as good as ever, next year.”

Charpy, whose tenure in the UAE stretches back to the early nineties, has saddled Manark to win three of his five races in the UAE including the $1million (Dh3.67 million) Dubai Kahayla Classic Empowered By IPIC last season.

However, Sefri provide the the Frenchman with some much needed relief when winning the Group 3 Jebel Ali Mile in the famous blue and white silks of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance.

It was Charpy’s third success in the race having previously won it with Pacino in 2002 and again in 2009 with Golden Arrow.

Revealing plans for the horse, who was a notable absentee from the field assembled for Friday’s 1,950-metres Jebel Ali Stakes Prep, the handler said: “We decided to keep him away for the Mile, and not run in the prep.

“We’re not too concerned about the extra distance, he can stay ten furlongs. He runs better fresh, so we’ll just wait.

“Paul Hanagan, stable jockey to Shaikh Hamdan, supported Charpy’s view and said: “Sefri is a big strong galloping horses and as a result I’m quite sure he’ll get the trip.

“I believe Erwan deserves all the credit because he keeps faith in his horses and always sticks by them.

“I’m looking forward to riding him in two weeks time.”
