Dubai: Godolphin’s Factional was bestowed with the Group 2 Prix Dollar at Longchamp, France, after the initial winner Cirrus des Aigles was demoted to fifth place for having caused interference during the closing stages of the 2,000-metre contest.

Ridden by big-race jockey Christophe Soumillon, the eight-year-old prevailed by the bob of his famous head, but also appeared to have hampered Factional, the mount of Raphael Marchelli who is trained in France by 24-time champion trainer Andre Fabre.

Representing Godolphin, which was set up by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Lisa-Jane Graffard said: “The target was to win a Group Two in 2012 before he got an injury and this is testament to the patience of Shaikh Mohammad and Andre Fabre.

“It’s quite an emotional feeling, tempered because you don’t want to win a race in the stewards’ room and I’m sorry for all the fans of Cirrus des Aigles.

“There are no plans for him at the moment.”

Meanwhile, French-trained Solow earned a vote for next year’s Dubai World Cup (G1) at Meydan, after winning the Group 2 Daniel Wildenstein Stakes at Longchamp.

The four-year-old son of Singspiel, who was following up on his Lucien Barriere (G3) at Deauville earlier in the, won well under French veteran Olivier Peslier.

Winning trainer Freddie Head said: “I was very confident coming here, and that wasn’t as easy as I thought, but he’s a very good horse.

“He didn’t break very well so it wasn’t quite as planned. He’s had problems but I’ve always liked him.

“He’ll probably go to race abroad now, maybe to Hong Kong and after that March in Dubai. Maybe for the World Cup, we’ll see.”

Another horse to earn a Dubai nomination was Pether’s Moon who comfortably landed the Group 3 BMW Cumberland Lodge Stakes at Newmarket, England.

The winner was ridden by Pat Dobbs to beat the Jim Bolger-trained Parish Hall and Godolphin’s former St. Leger (G1) winner Encke.

Pether’s Moon’s owner John Manley said he was hoping to have a shot at the Group 1 Sheema Classic next March.

“He won [the Coutts Glorious Stakes] at Glorious Goodwood, we went to Turkey and won the [Group Two] Bosphorus Cup, for big prize money of course [£150,000], which is always worth hunting for,” he told Channel 4 Racing.

“Today, we gave most of them 5lb and a sound beating, and Parish Hall 2lb — and he’s a good horse.

“I think we might be making for Dubai — that’s the plan at the moment.

“He looked very good here and now we’ll look at the Sheema Classic. It is not set in stone, but that’s what we are thinking.”

Godolphin’s Local Time completed a hat-trick of wins when successful in the Oh So Sharp Stakes at Newmarket.

The daughter of Invincible Spirit, who was ridden by James Doyle for Emirati trainer Saeed Bin Surour won by a neck from Astrelle, with Prize Destiny a head further away in third.
