Dubai: Godolphin look to have two leading chances in the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes, one of several build-up races to next season’s Classics and the highlight of the Dubai Duty Free International Weekend at Newbury Racecourse.

The globe-trotting stable, whose horses are in peak form, will be represented in Saturday’s race by the Richard Hannon-trained Log Out Island and Richard Fahey’s Ribchester.

Won last year by Toocoolforschool, the Mill Reef Stakes has produced some outstanding winners, including Mon Fils, who won the inaugural running in 1972 and went on to take the 2,000 Guineas the following Spring.

The race’s impeccable record for producing subsequent Group 1 winners in recent years is underscored by the success of Awzaan, who won the 2009 running prior to winning the following month’s Group 1 Shadwell Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket.

As title sponsors, Dubai Duty Free lend their name to nine races over the two-day fixture, which also includes the Group 3 Dubai Duty Free Legacy Cup and the Dubai International Airport World Trophy — as well as Friday’s feature race, the Listed Dubai Duty Free Cup.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Dubai Duty Free’s Executive Vice Chairman Colm McLoughlin said, “We are delighted to be back at Newbury Racecourse for the 19th running of the Dubai Duty Free International Weekend, which is a great conclusion to our 2015 racing season.

“Our support of horse racing continues to play a major role in our marketing strategy as it provides an important platform for us to showcase our brand and is an opportunity to promote Dubai as a centre of excellence for business, sport and leisure.

“It also enables us to entertain valued business partners, including those from the retail travel industry, as well as British horse racing officials and many national and local broadcast and print media, in a relaxed atmosphere.”

Al Basti Equiworld, the UAE’s leading distributor of horse feeds, nutritional supplements and equine veterinary products, also sponsor three races on the opening day including the Al Basti Equiworld EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes over 1,200 metres, and the two division of the the Al Basti Equiworld Handicap over 2,000 metres,
