Dubai: Team Godolphin, who have enjoyed a stunning 2017 British season, won a 12th Champion Owner title on British Champions Day, the grand finale, at Ascot on Saturday.

Created by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Godolphin amassed £5,241,602 in prize money over the past six months.

They sent out 132 winners from 552 horses since the season began on Guineas day on May 6 at Newmarket Racecourse.

Runner-up owner was the Coolmore syndicate of Smith, Magnier and Tabor with £2,933,713.35 in prize money earned by their eight winners.

Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance, who is one of the most influential figures in the sport of horse racing, both as an owner and breeder, was third with 105 winners from 584 representatives.

Godolphin claimed some of the biggest Group 1 wins of the season including the Sprint Cup (Harry Angel), Darley July Cup (Harry Angel), St. James’s Palace Stakes (Barney Roy), Queen Anne Stakes (Ribchester) and Lockinge Stakes (Ribchester).

Godolphin was born out of Shaikh Mohammad’s passion and that has helped it to evolve into the world’s largest and most global racing team.

Today Godolphin’s principal headquarters are in Newmarket, England, Sydney, Australia and Dubai. Godolphin horses, who contest races on four continents have won 256 Group/Grade One races in 12 countries worldwide.
