Abu Dhabi: Emirates Future International created a sensational upset to send favourites Abu Dhabi Indian School packing from the UAE Xchange U16 Abu Dhabi School League.

Emirates Future electing to bat first put up 125 for four and dismissed the strong ADIS batting to 108 to win by 17 runs at the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council’s Nursery Oval-1.

They will meet last year’s champions Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Pakistan School, who made short work on Bright Riders in a 10-wicket triumph, in the final at the ADCC Oval-2.

Fazal Shahid played a captain’s role for Emirates Future. The opener made a top score of 53 off 59 balls, and hit three fours and a six. He shared a century stand with Ishit Patel (32) for the first wicket, and held on to a couple of well-judged catches at long on.

The ADIS fielders grassed six catches and conceded 27 extras of which 26 were wides. Shahid was let off twice. However, it was the batting that let them down.

Jonathan Figy’s departure sent panic in their camp, leaving Sidharth Ramesh to wage a lone battle.

Arriving at the crease after the fall of the first wicket, Ramesh struck 53 off 45 balls. He was eighth out when going for a big hit after seeing wickets tumble at the other end.

A. Rahul, opening the bowling, provided the vital breaks. The off-spinner got one through the defences of Sahil Hariani (2) in his first over and had the prized scalp of Figy (6), caught behind by Essam Ahmed in his second over.

Meanwhile, Anwar Khan smashed an entertaining half century for Pakistan School to knock off the winning runs in seven over after restricting Bright Riders to 65 for eight. Anwar’s 30-ball 57 was studded with seven fours and three sixes while his opening partner Amjad Khatak’s contribution was five.
