Dubai Several exciting Dubai-owned three-year-olds will attempt to announce themselves as big-race prospects when the 2015 British flat racing season moves into gear on the first day of the Craven Meeting at Newmarket Racecourse on Wednesday.

Seven of the spring meeting’s eight races are aimed at the Classic generation with the 1400m Group 3 Nell Gywn Stakes and the 1800m Fielden Stakes (Listed) being the main highlights.

Historically, Godolphin have seldom sent significant runners to the two-day event due its timing to the transport of horses from their Dubai bases to Newmarket.

However, this year is an exception, with several key runners from the stable joining horses owned by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance, Shaikh Mohammad Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum and other Dubai owners, at the Rowley Mile course festival.

Beautiful Romance, an imposing nine-length winner on her lone career start at Doncaster last October, spearheads Team Godolphin’s line-up when she takes on eight rivals in the Nell Gwyn, a contest which serves as a notable trial for the English 1000 Guineas.

The Rabbah Blodstock-bred daughter of New Approach, is held in high regard by his trainer Saeed Bin Surour, who is looking for a first success in the race en route to a possible shot at the English fillies’ Classic which he has won twice in the past with Kazzia (2002) and Cape Verdi (1998).

“She won very well at Doncaster and this is her first test for this year,” said the Dubai World Cup-winning handler. “She’s working well, I’m happy with her and she is in good form, we will have to wait to see what she can do. It looks a very nice race, but I like her and I hope she will run well. Good ground should be fine for her.”

Beautiful Romance’s main rival appears to be champion trainer Richard Hannon’s Osaila, a three-time winner during her juvenile campaign.

“Osaila was a good filly last season, when she had the class to win the Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot, despite the six furlongs being too sharp,” Hannon told his website.

“The Rowley Mile will suit her ideally and she has developed enormously through the winter, so we go there hopeful.”

Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance, is looking for a third Nell Gwyn trophy with the Mark Johnston-trained Muraaqaba while Shaikh Mohammad Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum is represented by the Marco Botti-trained Astrelle.

A total of nine have been declared for the 1200m Tattersalls Millions 3YO Sprint, part of the valuable Tattersalls Millions race series.
