Dubai: The Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Golf Classic, which will be played on Ireland’s world famous Palmer Ryder Cup Course at The K Club on Thursday, will launch one of the most eagerly anticipated events on the Irish social and racing calendar.

The world’s largest airport retailer is returning to Ireland for the seventh year running to support the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby festival, which will culminate in the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby on Saturday, June 28.

Colm McLoughlin, Dubai Duty Free’s Executive Vice-Chairman, said: “Our sponsorship of the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby has been very successful since we began our support of the race in 2008 and not only does the sponsorship helps promote our own brand, but also that of Dubai itself.

“This affiliation fits well with our global business strategy and the link with sport helps foster goodwill and positive associations for Dubai Duty Free across the world.”

Dubai Duty Free’s sponsorship of the Derby features several ancillary, including the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Ball.

The nominated charity and recipient of the proceeds of the black-tie event will be The Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation. Last year almost €100,000 was raised on the night for the charity, which also included a donation by Dubai Duty Free.

To celebrate The Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation being the official charity partner for this year’s Irish Derby, the Curragh Racecourse has also selected 20 Irish designers and personalities to transform regular racing helmets into works of art.

The helmets are being auctioned online at www.curragh.ie with the auction closing to coincide with the Dubai Duty Free Derby Ball at the K Club on June 27.

Dubai Duty Free will entertain almost 400 guests from the worlds of business, sport, and entertainment at the exclusive Dubai Duty Free Pavilion.

Other attractions will include Most Stylish Lady competition worth €20,000 to the winner and a holiday of a lifetime to Dubai.
