Dubai: Rising Indian stars Karthik Sharma and Hitaashe Bakshi will showcase their burgeoning talent when they compete in the Dubai Creek Junior Open next Saturday [April 22].

The duo have been sponsored by the Indian Golfers Society (IGS) as part of their recent tie-up with the Golf Foundation, a charitable society formed in 2000 by likeminded golfers who wanted to give back to the game by helping a pool of talented, underprivileged golfers in India.

Both Sharma and Bakshi have strung together impressive streaks on the domestic circuits, rising to number one positions in the respective categories in the Indian Golf Union’s Orders of Merit.

Sharma, a 16-year-old left-handed prodigy, showed glimpses of his precocious talent while winning the Southern Indian Junior Golf Tournament last year and finishing a creditable seventh in the prestigious Nick Faldo Series in China.

Bakshi, who took to golf at very young age, served notice of her talent, winning the Northern Ladies and Junior Golf Tournament in 2016.

The Dubai Creek Junior Open will provide another opportunity for the duo to further hone their competitive edge. The Golf Foundation believes that India is capable of producing world champions if deserving talent from the weaker sections of society is supported.

“We are delighted to join hands with the foundation and I hope both these young prodigies will have fun playing at the Creek Open. I am sure experience gained from the event will stand them in good stead for the future,” said a spokesman of the Indian Golfer Society.

“Our society is not all about providing a great platform for our members to interact and enjoy golf in a relaxed atmosphere, we are more than willing to support the emerging talent in any way we can,” he added.
