Abu Dhabi: Georgia Hall, Mel Reid, Catriona Matthew and Cheyenne Woods have all confirmed their attendance for this year’s Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open (FBMLO) along with defending champion Beth Allen, at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club in Abu Dhabi from November 1 to 4.

The second edition of the $550,000 (Dh2 million) prize purse Ladies European Tour event, held under the patronage of Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairperson of the Family Development Foundation, and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, will feature 126 players vying for top honours.

English duo Hall and Reid both came close to victory last year with respective second and third place finishes last year and will now be looking to go one better.

“I’m looking forward to playing the course and playing some great golf,” said Hall. “I’d love to have a good result after a really strong finish in my first-ever FBMLO tournament last year.

“I know the girls think the course is absolutely lovely and, as always, there is a fantastic field — we can’t wait to get going.”

They will be joined by their European Solheim Cup teammates Florentyna Parker, Emily Kristine Pedersen and Catriona Matthew, who was recently appointed captain of Europe for the 2019 Solheim Cup. Matthew will be making her first appearance in Abu Dhabi along with Lee-Anne Pace, while Aditi Ashok will also be making a return.

“I’ve had a great year so far,” said Matthew. “I was vice-captain of Europe, which was followed by a last-minute playing position on the team, and then when I didn’t think it could get any better, I was honoured with the captaincy for the Solheim 2019 event.

“I’m really looking forward to topping off this great year in Abu Dhabi and hopefully this positivity will continue in the same vein at this year’s FBMLO.”

Cheyenne Woods, the niece of Tiger Woods, will also be making her first appearance in the capital.

Aref Al Awani, general secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said: “I am really pleased with the quality of the entries in this year’s tournament and I am looking forward to seeing a strong international presence for the second year running.

“We have increased the prize money on offer this year and as such we feel that we have an even higher quality of entries for the 2017 edition. As such, the FBMLO continues to feature on the global agenda as one of the most important stages for female golfers, which further underlines Abu Dhabi’s position as a global sports destination.”

Attendance is free for the event with a number of family-orientated activities to entice the next generation of female players. To register for free tickets, visit: www.fbmladiesopen.com/tickets.
