Dubai: As part of its four-year renewal with the European Tour, Emirates airline will become the official partner of the 2018 Ryder Cup, it was announced on Tuesday.

The renewal means the airline will continue to sponsor nine European Tour events which culminate in the prestigious end-of-year DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, as well as incorporating the 42nd edition of the Ryder Cup in France.

“Emirates partnering the 2018 Ryder Cup in Paris is huge news for the region,” said Nick Tarratt, director of the European Tour’s international Dubai office. “This is a wonderful local story that will be heard around the world and have a global impact. They last sponsored the Ryder Cup in 2010 at Celtic Manor and it is significant that they are back on board for next year’s event.

“The renewal of the partnership between Emirates and the European Tour until 2021 is also exciting for us. This long-term agreement enables us to properly plan and collaborate in a visionary and mutually beneficial partnership.”

Sir Tim Clark, president of Emirates airline said: “We’re pleased to announce our continued partnership with the European Tour. Golf is one of the world’s most popular sports and Emirates proudly links golfers and fans alike to top golfing events and destinations around the globe.

“As the official partner of the Ryder Cup in France next year, we look forward to further strengthening our relationship with the European Tour as well as engaging with millions of golf fans around the world.”

Keith Pelley, chief executive of the European Tour, said: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with Emirates on the European Tour until 2021 and we also welcome them on board as an official partner of the 2018 Ryder Cup.

“I have no doubt our continued partnership with such a well-established and iconic global brand, and one which has vast experience in the sports sponsorship market, will be hugely beneficial not just to the European Tour but also to the Ryder Cup.”
