Dubai: Finland’s Minea Blomqvist won an Omega watch after getting a hole-in-one at the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters on Friday, but the first thing she will use it for is to check the time of her flight home as she also missed the cut.

The 31-year-old’s ace on the par three seventh from 147-yards using a seven iron was one of the only positives from a round of 76 on Friday, which added to her opening 78, left her 10 over par for the tournament, six strokes off the cut.

Winning a Dh49,000 Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m Master Co-Axial went some way towards consoling her over her performance however.

“My golf wasn’t that great, but winning the watch has made my week,” said Blomqvist, who shot two bogies before, and one bogie after, the hole in one, before returning with four bogies and a lone birdie, on Friday.

“Frankly, I didn’t hit it very well, I caught it a bit thin, but luckily it popped into the hole. I’m really excited as it was my first hole-in-one in a competition, though I had aced once before, it was only in a practice round.”

Overall this is the fifth hole-in-one in the 11-year history of the tournament. The only other ace was on the seventh by Spain’s Tania Elosegui in 2009.

Other notable missed cuts were four-time major winner Laura Davies on six over and internet sensations Paige Spiranac (13 over) and Chelsea Pezzola (20 over).
