Dubai: More than 50 players from across the globe will vie alongside some of the best talent from the Gulf region as the Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup turns 24 this year.
What started off as a concept for bringing together representatives of the duty free industry to Dubai has now turned out to be one of the most successful and popular events on the duty free sporting calendar.
This year’s competition has attracted more than 50 golfers from overseas including Great Britain, Germany, France, Ireland, Australia, Switzerland, Sweden, Hong Kong, Singapore and the Netherlands join players from the UAE and Gulf countries.
The event will be held at The Montgomery and Dubai Creek and Golf Yacht Club on November 30 and December 1.
“The organisation of this tournament marks yet another milestone for Dubai Duty Free and we are looking forward to welcoming over 100 players this year. Over the past 23 years the players have enjoyed the atmosphere of friendly competition and the social interaction makes it a good meeting place for those involved in the duty free industry,” Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice-Chairman and Ceo of Dubai Duty Free, noted.
The two-day event is an invitation-only tournament for amateur players with a maximum handicap of 28 for men and 36 for women. The competition will be held over 36 holes as per Stableford rules with players playing off full handicap.
Organised by Dubai Duty Free, this year’s competition is being held just after the ongoing Middle East and Africa Duty Free Association (MEADFA) Conference. Past champions include Steve Flanagan (1993 and 1996), Raimund Legnar (1994), Brendan O’Shea (1995), Dermot Davitt (2013), Denise Kennedy (2014) and defending champion Bayer Khan.
