Porto Alegre: Former Manchester United and Brazil international midfielder Anderson has been released by Internacional by mutual agreement.

The 29-year-old, who had a year remaining on his contract, was told he was no longer a part of the club’s plans after returning from a season-long loan with Brazilian Serie A outfit Coritiba FC.

“(We) came to an agreement to finalise his contract. The club wishes him all the best in the next phase of his career,” Internacional said in brief statement on Thursday.

Anderson played 88 matches and scored six goals in two full seasons for Internacional, whom he joined in 2015 after more than seven years at English Premier League (EPL) giants Manchester United.

His move to Coritiba came after Internacional were relegated to Brazil’s second division in 2016. He made just 11 appearances for Coritiba, scoring three goals.

“In 2018, I’ll continue by search for new challenges, just as I have done since I was 12,” Anderson said in a statement.

“I’ll always support Internacional and hope the club can achieve all of its goals.”
