Paris: Spanish football giants Real Madrid are reportedly in advanced talks with French club AS Monaco for the signing of Colombian striker Radamel Falcao.

The 28-year-old former FC Porto and Atletico Madrid forward, who scored nine goals in 17 Ligue 1 appearances last season before a knee injury ruled him out in January, met his agent Jorge Mendees to discuss his potential move back to La Liga, Xinhua quoted French radio RMC as saying on Wednesday.

Also, the French publication Le Sport reported that Real have prepared an offer of more than €60 million (Dh290.5 million) for the player.

It has been rumoured that Carlo Ancelotti may have concerns over Karim Benzema leading Real’s line this season, as the French striker failed to score in their opening three matches so far.

The €75 million record sale of Angel Di Maria to Manchester United on Tuesday may act as funding for Real to bargain a deal with Monaco for Falcao.

However, the Uefa Champions League winners are not the only European powerhouses bidding for Falcao, as English Premierships’ Arsenal are among possible rivals with Monaco demanding a £20 million (Dh121.8 million) fee to loan the forward for a year.

Just two days earlier, Falcao, who has entered the second year of his five-year contract with Monaco following his big-money move from Atletico Madrid last summer, said after he scored the only goal in Sunday’s 1-0 win at Lorient: “I’m very happy to be here. It’s a pleasure to play in this team, and I hope to stay here.”

It is possible that Mendes meets Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and AS Monaco’s Russian owner Dmitry Rybolovlev to discuss the Colombian’s future on Thursday night at the Uefa Champions League draw.
