Abu Dhabi: The UAE national ladies football team trounced Iraq 6-1 late on Saturday in a friendly match held at the Armed Forces Training Stadium.

The two teams are preparing for their forthcoming regional and continental competitions.

The Iraqi team arrived in Abu Dhabi on Thursday to prepare for the West Asian Zone.

The Iraqi will again face the Emiratis at the same venue tomorrow.

"We have gathered our players from different cities of Iraq and they did not have enough time to prepare so we expect they will benefit from these matches in creating mutual understanding and harmony between them," said Riyadh Nouri, head coach of Iraq, to Gulf News.

The match started with the hosts taking an early lead when Sara Hassanain put the UAE into the lead after only five minutes with a fierce long-range shot. Jalila Al Nuaimi added the second goal, seven minutes later, from the penalty spot while Nadien scored the third just before the break.

The UAE continued to dominate after the breather and Maha, Nada and Jalila added goals to seal the victory for their team. Nadia Fadhil Abdul Ameer scored Iraq's solitary goal.

The match was attended by a number of senior officials from the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
